What appears on Certificates after redemption?

This article explains what information appears on a redemption statement/certificate, and highlights the key details needed for verification and compliance across all registry formats.

The terms 'redemption statement' & 'redemption certificate' are able to be used interchangeably in this field.

A redemption statement is an official record confirming that environmental certificates have been retired through a recognized registry. Each registry’s format may differ, but the required information remains the same. Each certificate includes the following required details:

    • Registry utilized for the issuance and retirement
    • Date of the transaction (redemption)
    • Certificate volume and unique identifiers
    • Redemption specifics & reason for redemption
      • Date of generation
      • technology
      • production device
      • country of origin
      • certificate ID
      • and more...
    • Reference confirming the certificates used in the redemption process
    • For a statement or certificate to be deemed valid for verification and audit purposes, it must clearly indicate the redemption as ‘completed’—statements marked as ‘pending’ are not sufficient.

Registries do not require the same information across the board. There will be instances where information (such as the 'Start and End Date' of the period) will be required in one registry, but not another.
